My Mary Kay career started 24 years ago and quite by a stroke of fate. I was a young mom new to Vancouver with three sons who were keeping me hopping. I was balancing a nursing career and hating the shift work and feeling guilty about leaving them with sitters. I was shy, didn’t wear makeup, didn’t even know my neighbors yet, so I wasn’t very comfortable when I was invited to a makeup party. Well I did go to that Mary Kay party. I wasn’t keen to buy the products because I felt they were expensive! I had never used anything but soap and water on my face and makeup was saved for weddings or New Years parties. I did become a hostess for my consultant to get a discount on the products though.. Well, my consultant had a plan for me, and soon I was looking at the business with my husband by my side to find the catch! There was no catch, and I think it was the 90% buy back that gave me the courage to try this.

I have not been back to the nursing ever since, and all my boys had their first dates and driving tests in the PINK CADILLACS. This career has been magical and I must say that the glamorous trips, furs, diamonds and free cars have totaled up to so many I can’t honestly count them all. The most prized gift of all though, has to be, the person I have become in the process. It means more than anything to say, I am not shy, and I feel confident in who I am.! I think every woman needs financial and emotional growth and security.

My husband, Michael and I live on our ship, so we have a very unique lifestyle that Mary Kay is providing. We have 7 grown children, our youngest is a beauty consultant, our oldest a doctor, and we are blessed with 6 grandkids. Life never gets less busy! I am so glad I made my children my reason to build a strong successful career instead of my excuse. They learned first hand what it takes to achieve big goals, they saw the disappointing times and they were there for all the celebrations. They understand what success is all about. They have seen, and lived in an atmosphere of positive expectations. That is a lesson that was caught not taught.
